Self-employed or starting your own business
If you are self-employed or thinking of starting your own business, there is a lot of information, practical support and advice available – and most of it is free.
Three and a half million people in the UK are self-employed. And probably all would agree that getting access to the right information and support before you launch your business is crucial to success.
Jobcentre Plus can provide information about starting your own business and can provide a programme of help through the New Deal.
Other support is available, for instance from:
- Business Link - the main source of business support from starting a business idea through to trading;
- HM Revenue & Customs which can help with tax and financial issues;
- Directgov – Are you a 'worker', 'employee' or 'self-employed'?
