2 August 2004 - Appointment of Group Director, Welfare to Work, Children and Disabled People
Adam Sharples has been appointed Welfare to Work, Children and Disabled People Group Director. He replaces Ursula Brennan who has transferred to DEFRA.
Notes for editors
- Adam Sharples will report to the Permanent Secretary of DWP, Sir Richard Mottram. He will be in charge of the DWP’s strategy to serve children, disabled people and those of working age. He will be responsible for determining the services needed, and monitoring performance and delivery.
- Adam Sharples is currently Director of the Inland Revenue’s International Division which is responsible for policy on international tax issues, and taxation of non-residents and the UK energy sector.
- He joined the Revenue in 2003 from the Treasury where he was Director of Public Spending from 1998 and headed the Public Enterprise team (1997-1998), the Transport team (1996-1997) and the Tax and Budget team (1992-1996).
- Adam has an MSc in Economics from Queen Mary’s College London and a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford.
- The appointment follows a Civil Service-wide competition. As for other competitions for posts at this level the appointment has been approved by the Prime Minister with the agreement of the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.
