22 September 2005 - Help us relieve the burden – Timms says new group can help reduce excessive regulation for stakeholders

The first meeting of the Better Regulation Stakeholder Group took place in London with interested parties being asked for their suggestions on ways to ease the burden on business.

Chaired by the Department’s Better Regulation Minister, Stephen Timms, the group will look primarily at ways of cutting back on regulation that is considered redundant or unnecessarily excessive.

Opening the meeting, Stephen Timms said:

“Right across Government we are working with industry to look at areas of regulation that are excessive or no longer required. This group will allow the DWP’s key stakeholders and partners in industry to discuss how we can achieve this.

“I am asking people who can contribute to this agenda to get in touch with the department with possible solutions or areas of concerns.”

Stakeholders who believe they can contribute to this agenda need to provide the department with evidence- based descriptions of a problem and/or a high quality solution to consider in writing.

These should be sent to simplification@dwp.gsi.gov.uk for the Department to consider.

The Better Regulation Stakeholder Group will meet quarterly.
